AN INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON THE ITINERARY OF THE DISABLED CHILD

Under the theme ” Itinéraire de l’enfant en situation de handicap en Afrique : état des lieux et perspectives “, the New Horizons Foundation organized an international symposium from March 26 to 27, 2024, during ” Lucie’s Legacy “, with the aim of establishing scientific work and relaunching the structure’s activities.

 

A number of experts on the subject came from all over the world to educate, inform & report, with the aim of producing a scientific review for the whole of Africa. In her capacity as Executive Director of the New Horizons Foundation, Ms. Stella Ignoumba publicly expressed her ambition for the future of the foundation.
Conference: ” This symposium needs to raise the essential questions linked to the difficulties of diagnosis and assessment, so that reliable tools recognized by international bodies can be used as quickly as possible. That it will enable us to improve our practices in order to offer our country coherent and efficient care for all children with disabilities. “she said.

After two (2) days of work, recommendations were put forward by the speakers, with a view to finding theoretical and practical ways of improving support systems for children with disabilities. In this case, the recommendations were as follows:

– Promote training for professionals and parents;
– Shifting the position of knowledge as a caregiver and inventing creative devices and knowing how to adapt to the cultural context;
– Define a clear framework for specialized services to enable a multidisciplinary approach
– Stepping up campaigns to raise awareness of disorders ;
– Raising awareness and screening
