Fondations Horizons Nouveaux

TRAINING IN NEURODEVELOPMENTAL DISORDERS AND THEIR MANAGEMENT

As part of the resumption of its activities, the New Horizons Foundation launched its pre-registration campaign on May 15 for its two establishments, which will cater for young people with intellectual development disorders and the visually impaired and blind.

In the second phase of this campaign, the New Horizons Foundation will diagnose and evaluate young people with neurodevelopmental disorders. To achieve this, we have brought in Dr Anna-Corinne Bissouma, who is currently working with local teams of doctors, psychologists, neuro-pediatricians, pediatricians, speech therapists, psychomotor therapists…

We believe that we need to start surrounding ourselves with competent professionals in the field of diagnostics and assessments of young people with intellectual disabilities and/or ASD. In other words, and in line with the recommendations made after our March 2024 symposium, we cannot envisage the implementation of relevant support strategies without a good understanding of the abilities and disabilities of the young people entrusted to our care. What’s true for the New Horizons Foundation is also true for the rest of the organizations with the same mission in Gabon.

From July 1 to 5, a training session was held at the Acae site of the Horizons Foundation.

The aim of this training course is to improve participants’ knowledge of the clinic, diagnosis, assessments and management of neurodevelopmental disorders, in particular intellectual deficit disorders and autism spectrum disorders.
This training also enables us to build up a core group of professionals interested in the themes of diagnosis and assessment in our field. It also enables us to have motivated staff capable of diagnosing young people whose parents have submitted an application to the Tarii facility.

The ultimate goal is to offer local professionals in our core business the most advanced training in both theory and practice.
